Minimally Invasive Treatment for Early-Stage Cavities
At The Minnesota Center for Minimally Invasive Dentistry, we use CURODONT® Repair to treat certain early-stage cavities without drilling. CURODONT is a biomimetic professional treatment designed for early enamel lesions, often referred to as “watch areas,” where we want to support remineralization and preserve natural tooth structure rather than immediately placing a filling.
This approach fits seamlessly into our preventive, conservative philosophy and allows us to intervene earlier—without sacrificing healthy enamel.
What Is CURODONT® Repair?
CURODONT Repair is a non-invasive treatment designed for incipient lesions, meaning cavities that are limited to the enamel and have not penetrated into the dentin.
CURODONT works by supporting the natural remineralization process of enamel. Instead of removing tooth structure, the treatment helps stabilize and strengthen weakened areas, allowing us to stay conservative and avoid unnecessary drilling when appropriate.
CURODONT is often identified and recommended during routine Exams and Cleanings when early changes in enamel are detected.
Why We Use CURODONT Instead of “Wait and Drill”
Traditionally, early cavities were either monitored or treated once they progressed enough to require a filling. CURODONT allows us to take a more proactive and conservative approach.
In appropriate cases, CURODONT may be:
- A minimally invasive option for early lesions where we’d rather support enamel than wait for progression
- A better alternative than simply monitoring, because it actively supports remineralization
- A way to reduce the likelihood that a small lesion becomes a larger restoration later
This approach aligns with our goal of preserving as much healthy, natural tooth structure as possible.
Key Benefits of CURODONT® Repair
CURODONT offers several advantages for the right candidate:
- Minimally invasive and non-surgical
- No drilling and no removal of healthy tooth structure
- Quick and comfortable treatment
- Typically about half the fee of a traditional filling
- Helps stabilize early lesions and support enamel strength
Because the treatment is non-invasive, it is often well-tolerated and does not require anesthesia.
Fluoride Note: What to Know
In many countries, CURODONT Repair is available in a fluoride-free formulation. In the United States, the professional version currently available is CURODONT Repair Fluoride Plus, which contains a small amount of fluoride—less than many in-office fluoride treatments.
While the fluoride-free version is not yet available in the U.S., the biomimetic design and conservative nature of CURODONT align closely with our approach to minimally invasive and biological dentistry. We are always transparent about materials used and happy to discuss whether CURODONT is appropriate for your individual preferences and needs.
Who Is a Candidate for CURODONT®?
CURODONT is not appropriate for every cavity. It is best suited for:
- Early enamel lesions (“watch areas”)
- Cavities that have not reached the dentin
- Patients with manageable cavity risk
- Situations where preserving natural tooth structure is the priority
Candidacy is determined based on your exam findings, risk level, and the stage of the lesion. If a cavity has progressed beyond enamel, a traditional restoration may still be necessary.
Part of a Conservative, Preventive Approach
CURODONT Repair works hand-in-hand with our use of advanced diagnostic tools such as cavity detection, which help us identify early changes in enamel sooner.
By combining early detection with minimally invasive treatment options, we aim to reduce the need for more aggressive procedures whenever possible.
What to Expect During CURODONT Treatment
CURODONT treatment is typically quick and comfortable. The material is applied directly to the affected area following proper preparation, with no drilling involved. Your dentist will explain the process, expected outcomes, and any follow-up recommendations as part of your personalized care plan.
Is CURODONT® Right for You?
Not every early cavity is the same. Our role is to evaluate, educate, and recommend the most conservative option that supports your long-term oral health.
If CURODONT is appropriate, we will discuss how it fits into your preventive care plan and how we will continue to monitor the area over time.

It's hard to believe that something so small could change my life in such a big way. I have been pain free without drugs or surgery for years now. My teeth have been saved from more damage because I don't grind them any more.
