Cavity Detection in Saint Paul, MN
Our practice uses state-of-the-art technology to detect cavities before they even become visible, much less severe. In many cases, we are able to spot, and treat, enamel demineralization before cavities have a chance to form.
How does it work?
DEXIS CariVu technology uses near-infrared light to show areas of dental enamel demineralization as well as existing cavities. Through the process of transillumination, DEXIS CariVu makes healthy enamel look transparent while weakened or unhealthy enamel lights up. This technology is more sensitive and accurate than traditional X-rays. Plus, DEXIS CariVu utilizes non-ionizing radiation, making it much safer than conventional X-rays.
At the Minnesota Center for Minimally Invasive Dentistry we use DEXIS CariVu X-rays to:
- Detect spots of de-mineralization before cavities develop
- Pinpoint existing cavities
- Assess dental enamel thickness and health
- Prepare a tooth for root canal therapy
- Check for hidden infections before placing sealants
DEXIS CariVu is often a better choice than traditional X-rays for children, people with compromised immune systems, pregnant women, and patients who want to minimize radiation exposure.
What Our Patients Are Saying
After working with Dr. Malterud for a couple of weeks to get the right fit for my NTI, the results are great. I may still get a headache but only for a few hours and not severe.
— Judy Wiedl
It's hard to believe that something so small could change my life in such a big way. I have been pain free without drugs or surgery for years now. My teeth have been saved from more damage because I don't grind them any more.
