St. Paul Invisalign Dentist Explains the Invisalign Process

by | Date Published:

Where do I begin?

The process begins by selecting an experienced Invisalign Provider. Remember that not all dentists are trained to properly use Invisalign, so it’s important to find someone who has been thoroughly trained to use Invisalign in order to get the most out of your treatment.

Consultation

Invisalign can now effectively treat different types of alignment issues from simple to more complex, so the consultation with your Minneapolis Invisalign Dentist is an important part of the process in determining what the best course of treatment is for you.

Treatment Plan

In order to develop a customized treatment plan, your Invisalign dentist will take x-rays and impressions of your teeth, which will be used to create a digital 3-D image.  These will assist your dentist in developing a precise treatment plan, including the exact movements of your teeth. Your doctor will even be able to show you a virtual representation of how your teeth will move with each stage of treatment!

Your Invisalign Aligners

Based on your treatment plan, a series of clear aligners are created specifically for you. These aligners are made of a smooth, comfortable BPA-free plastic that won't irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces. Simply wear them throughout the day, and remove them when you eat or to brush and floss your teeth. As you wear each set of aligners, your teeth gently and gradually begin to shift into place. And because they're virtually invisible, most people won't even notice you're wearing them.

Approximately every two weeks, you will visit your Highland Park, MN Invisalign Dentist to receive the next set of aligners that will continue to gently move your teeth into the correct position. You will be able to see the progress you’re making at each visit. The process usually takes about a year for adults. For teens, the length of time required for proper alignment is comparable to that of traditional braces.
